Forging bronze Buddha statue
The forging of bronze Buddha statues is a craft. There are more than 100
kinds of chisels for carving. It is difficult to learn them without
more than ten years.
To forge a bronze Buddha statue, we need to make a sample with clay
sculpture first, and then make a model with copper. After beating,
welding, carving and other processes, and finally polishing and gilding,
the finished product can be completed. Small Buddha statues usually
take more than two months to complete. Exquisite small Buddha statues
can only produce five or six in a year. Slow work makes fine work.
At the beginning, the mold was used to form, then the standard shape was
knocked out, and then the fine patterns were carefully carved, until
the final fire was baked. Some tools that don't need mould need to be
made by hand. It's more difficult and the production time will increase
correspondingly.
Forging copper is a process different from casting copper. It is a kind
of artistic product produced by making use of the characteristics that
the copper plate becomes soft after being heated and hard after being
hammered.
After assembling and welding, the parts finally have a complete image of
Buddha step by step. Such a bronze ware is completely different from
that made by machine. The bronze ware made by machine is round and even,
but lacks luster. Hand forged bronzes show many forged scratches, such
as diamonds with many polished surfaces
