塑像通常都是用泥塑成的。现在甘肃敦煌石窟和炳灵寺石窟保存着不少六朝至唐宋的精美塑像。宋元明的塑像，各有风格不同。泥塑因材料省钱，制作也相对容易，故在我国造像中应用的比较广泛。
Statues are usually made of clay. At present, Dunhuang Grottoes and Bingling Temple Grottoes in Gansu Province hold many exquisite statues from the Six Dynasties to the Tang and Song dynasties. The statues of song, yuan and Ming dynasties have different styles. Clay sculpture is widely used in China because of its low cost and easy manufacture.
